The Massage Program at Lane Community College
The LCC Massage Therapy Program is comprised of just over 600 contact hours. This exceeds the minimum 500 hours required by the Oregon Board of Massage Therapists for licensure. Of those 500 hours: 200 must be in health sciences like Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, and Kinesiology; and 300 must be dedicated to the practice and theory of massage and bodywork, including courses on the laws, ethics, and the business side of the profession.
As of the 2013-14 school year, tuition and fees total approximately $6800, and textbook costs are approximately $400. Students are also required to hold personal liability insurance for hands-on classes, which can be purchased through several professional associations for about $90 (for two years of coverage). Hands-on classes will also require that students receive three professional massages through the duration of the program, which will total about $180, and buy supplies such as sheets. Though it is not required, many students find it more convenient to purchase a massage table as they advance through the program; the cost of tables varies widely, but students can expect to pay $300-500 for a table, bolster, carrying case, and stool. Because the program is non-credit, students do not qualify for federal financial aid packages, but alternatives are available.
